Press Release:

FRAMINGHAM, MA – Congresswoman Katherine Clark is partnering with Project Citizenship and the Massachusetts Office for Refugees and Immigrants to host Citizenship Day in Framingham on Saturday, March 14.

Permanent residents ready to take the next steps in becoming U.S. citizens are invited to join the free workshop where volunteers will be on hand to provide eligibility screening, application assistance, legal referrals and training.

“Only about ten percent of the nation’s 8 million legal permanent residents apply for citizenship each year.  Applicants are reluctant to apply because of the time, cost and challenges inherent in the process,” said Veronica Serrato, Executive Director at Project Citizenship.

“The good work and leadership of Project Citizenship’s impacts the lives of families who are on their journey to becoming citizens,” said Congresswoman Katherine Clark. “My hope is that through partnerships like these, our immigrant and refugee communities will see my office as another resource in their journey.”

Eligible participants must be 18 years of age and have achieved legal permanent residency for five years, or three years if they are married to U.S. citizens. Interested applicants should call Project Citizenship at (617) 694-5949 or visit www.projectcitizenship.org
