Federal Chief Judge Miranda Du still remembers helping her mother study for the naturalization test.

“My dad was very confident, he wouldn’t have asked us to help,” Du said. “I remember my mom being nervous about the exam and feeling like she really needed to study.”

Although Du couldn’t recall the details of that day 36 years ago, she remembered the emotions she shared with her parents when they took that final step toward citizenship —the Naturalization Oath of Allegiance.
