Elida’s Citizenship Story
Spanish: “Yo me mude de la República Dominicana para los Estados Unidos en 2017. Decidí mudarme por el matrimonio con mi esposo y para un futuro mejor. Mi vida en este país ha crecido y ahorra tengo más familia aquí. Por las razones que he vivido aquí por mucho tiempo y que tengo mi familia, quiero ser ciudadana.
Aunque mi vida ha cambiado mucho, y hay muchas diferencias entre mi vida en la República Dominicana y mi vida aquí, siempre me ha gustado este país. He tenido condiciones de salud, pero la atención médica y los recursos para la medicina en este país me han ayudado muchísimo. Me siento diferente en este país—me siento bien y más segura.
El programa de Project Citizenship me ha ayudado bastante. Tengo un nieto que ya es ciudadano, entonces yo también quiero ser ciudadana como él. Quiero vivir como él. Las personas de Project Citizenship continuaron de ayudarme con mi aplicación para realizar mi meta de obtener la ciudadanía.“
English: “I moved to the United State from the Dominican Republic in 2017. I decided to move here because of my marriage with my husband and for a better future. My life in this country has grown and I now have more family here. I want to become a citizen, because I have lived here for so long and I have a family.
Even though my life has changed a lot, and there are many differences between my life in the Dominican Republic and my life in America, I have always loved this country. I have had medical conditions in the past, but the medical attention that U.S. doctors provide, and the resources offered for medicine and treatments have helped me so much. I feel different in this country—I feel good and more secure.
Project Citizenship’s programs have helped me so much. I have a nephew who is already a citizen, and so I wish to be one just like him. I want to live freely like him. The people at Project Citizenship continued to help me with my application to achieve my dream of becoming a citizen.“
