Building Stronger Communities Through Citizenship

Project Citizenship increases access to U.S. citizenship across New England by providing free, high-quality legal services to lawful permanent residents seeking naturalization. We focus on serving immigrants who face the greatest barriers to citizenship, including individuals with limited financial resources, language barriers, disabilities, complex legal needs, and other barriers.

Citizenship creates opportunity, stability, and belonging, and by helping eligible immigrants become U.S. citizens, we strengthen civic participation, economic mobility, and community resilience throughout New England.

How We Create Impact

We help eligible immigrants navigate the path to citizenship with clarity and confidence by leveraging trained volunteers and pro bono attorneys, as well as community partnerships.

Free, Expert Legal Services

Our support includes eligibility screenings, application assistance, legal consultations, citizenship workshops, fee waiver and disability exemption support, and case management.

We also help individuals with complex immigration or criminal histories understand their options and make informed decisions about pursuing citizenship.

A Volunteer-Powered Model

Trained volunteers and pro bono attorneys assist with our citizenship workshops to deliver high-quality, cost-effective services.

This model allows us to serve more clients while fostering meaningful connections between immigrants, legal professionals, and community members.

Community Partnerships

We partner with trusted community organizations across New England to connect eligible immigrants with citizenship services.

These relationships help expand access to our programs and enable us to connect clients with additional resources, such as English language learning, civics instruction, workforce development, and other community supports.

Why Citizenship Matters

For lawful permanent residents, becoming a U.S. citizen is an important step toward fully participating in American life.

Citizenship can provide:

  • Greater security and long-term stability
  • The right to vote and participate in civic life
  • Expanded educational and economic opportunities
  • Easier family reunification pathways
  • Access to certain public benefits and protection from deportation
  • A stronger sense of belonging within one’s community

Yet many eligible immigrants face significant obstacles, including application costs, legal complexity, language barriers, and uncertainty about the process. Project Citizenship exists to help remove those barriers.

Project Citizenship's Impact

Our work extends beyond individual citizenship applications. When eligible immigrants become U.S. citizens:

Individuals Gain Opportunity

New citizens gain greater security, expanded rights, and access to opportunities that help them thrive.

Families Build Stability

Citizenship strengthens family stability by reducing concerns about deportation, supporting overall well-being, and creating pathways for family reunification.

Communities Grow Stronger

Increased citizenship leads to greater economic engagement and community connection.

Democracy Benefits

Naturalization expands civic participation and helps ensure more people have a voice in shaping their communities and country.

Our Vision: A future where every eligible immigrant has access to trusted legal support, the opportunity to become a U.S. citizen, and the ability to fully participate in civic and community life.

Our Values

Excellence

We are committed to providing free, timely, and high-quality legal services while continuously improving the support we offer clients.

Inclusion

We treat every client with dignity, compassion, and respect, prioritizing their needs and best interests in every interaction.

Democracy

We believe citizenship strengthens democracy by expanding civic participation and empowering individuals to engage fully in public life.

Collaboration

We work alongside community organizations, volunteers, pro bono attorneys, and institutional partners to build a community-driven model that expands access to citizenship services.
