General Questions About Project Citizenship

Project Citizenship is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping eligible lawful permanent residents become U.S. citizens. Through free citizenship and naturalization services, we guide immigrants through every step of the citizenship process—from eligibility screening to application submission. Each year, we support 1,000+ aspiring citizens through the naturalization process.

Our team provides trusted legal assistance, answers questions about the naturalization process, and helps applicants overcome barriers that may prevent them from becoming citizens.

All services are provided free of charge, ensuring that cost is never a barrier to accessing citizenship support.

Your donation helps immigrants overcome barriers to U.S. citizenship and access the opportunities, security, and rights that come with becoming a citizen.

Project Citizenship’s work sits at the intersection of social justice, economic opportunity, and civic participation. The individuals we serve reflect the diversity and strength of New England’s immigrant communities:

  • All our clients are immigrants–lawful permanent residents from 120 countries.
  • Greater than 95% are people of color.
  • 70% of our clients live below the 150% Federal poverty level.
  • 15% are elderly; many older immigrants face English language challenges.
  • 15% are disabled.

Every donation helps provide free, high-quality legal services that make citizenship more accessible for immigrants and their families.

Project Citizenship collaborates closely with immigration legal service providers, community organizations, and social service agencies throughout New England.

Because of our specialized focus on citizenship and naturalization, partner organizations often refer complex citizenship cases to our team.

This collaborative approach helps expand access to services while reducing duplication of efforts across immigrant-serving nonprofits in New England.
