Sonia’s Citizenship Story
Español: “Soy de Santo Domingo, la capital de la República Dominicana. Mi esposo trajo a mis hijos y me trajo a mi también. Yo llegué aquí en junio de 2016. Aquí es muy diferente de mi país—la cultura y la educación son muy maravillosas. Me agradezco estar en este país porque también la situación económica es diferente. Cuando trabaje en limpieza, yo estaba haciendo cursos para cuidar a niños y para las personas mayores. Ahora estoy trabajando con niños.
Siempre fue mi sueño ser una ciudadana de los Estados Unidos—entonces, investigué mucho y me encontré con una abogada que me habló del Proyecto Ciudadanía. Mis hijos son adultos y ya son ciudadanos—ellos me motivaron también por hacer el proceso. Siempre me habló sobre el programa porque quiero informar y motivar personas que no conocen porque Proyecto Ciudadania es como parte de mi familia. Cada vez que yo voy a la oficina todos me conocen y entienden. Me gusta que todos son organizados—todos hacen un bonito trabajo.
Proyecto Ciudadania es muy importante y beneficioso para mi comunidad—por eso cuando publiquen algo en Facebook yo lo comparto para que más personas miren y conozcan la organización. Es una experiencia linda—me agradezco mucho, era mi sueño ser una ciudadana de los Estado Unidos y me lo concedieron gracias a Proyecto Ciudadania!”
English: “I’m from Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic. My husband had brought me over with our children. I arrived here in June 2016. Here it is very different compared to my country—the culture and education is wonderful. I’m very grateful to be in this country because the economic situation is different here as well. While I worked as a cleaner, I started taking courses on how to take care of children and senior citizens. Right now, I am working with children.
It’s always been my dream to be a citizen of the United States—so I had researched a lot and found a lawyer who had recommended Project Citizenship. My children are adults and are already citizens—so they motivated me to go through the process. I always talk about the program with others because I want to inform and motivate those who don’t know about it because Project Citizenship is like my family. Every time I come into the office, everyone knows me and understands me. I like how organized everyone is—everyone does a beautiful job.
Project Citizenship is very important and beneficial to my community—this is why whenever they post on Facebook I always share so that more people can see and get to know the organization. My experience is a lovely one—I am very grateful because it has always been my dream to be a citizen of the United States and I have finally fulfilled it thanks to Project Citizenship!”
