Project Citizenship's Services
Eligibility Screening
Our team conducts phone screenings to determine whether you may be eligible to apply for U.S. citizenship and identify any potential concerns before you begin.
Personalized Legal Guidance
We provide individualized support to our clients, including legal review, fee waiver and disability exemption assistance, and support for applicants with complex or unique circumstances.
Citizenship Workshops
Throughout the year, we host free citizenship workshops across Massachusetts where trained volunteers and pro bono attorneys work one-on-one with eligible applicants to complete Form N-400, the Application for Naturalization. For applicants completing Form N-600, the Application for Certificate of Citizenship, we provide virtual/phone appointments.
Ongoing Support
Our support continues after we mail the application on your behalf. We help clients understand next steps, prepare for appointments and interviews, and navigate the process through the Oath of Allegiance.
Additional Support We Provide
Fee Waivers
Although Project Citizenship’s services are always free, USCIS charges a $760 filing fee for most citizenship applications. We help eligible low-income applicants apply for full or partial fee waivers, reducing or eliminating the cost of applying.
Disability Accommodations
For applicants with physical, developmental, or cognitive disabilities, we assist with requests for disability exemptions and accommodations, like Form N-648 (Medical Certification for Disability Exceptions).
Legal Guidance and Referrals
When potential legal issues arise, our attorneys provide guidance to our clients by explaining available options and making recommendations. We also connect clients with additional resources and referrals.

What Happens at a Citizenship Workshop?
Our citizenship workshops are designed to make the application process as accessible and stress-free as possible. During a workshop, trained volunteers and immigration attorneys work directly with eligible applicants to complete the 14-part naturalization application.
At the end of an appointment, a client will receive:
- A copy of their application for their records
- Information about next steps in the naturalization process
- Citizenship study materials
- Referrals to civics and English classes, if needed
Our legal team identifies potential legal issues, advises clients on their options, and thoroughly reviews every application before submitting it to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) as attorney of record.
