What to Expect During the N-600 Application Process:
Get Screened for N-600 Eligibility
Obtaining U.S. citizenship through a U.S. citizen parent (citizenship through derivation) can be a complicated process, and each case is different. Though a phone screening, Project Citizenship can help determine if you are eligible for citizenship through derivation (N-600 form) or the application for naturalization (N-400 form).
Complete Your N-600 Application with Project Citizenship
If you're eligible to complete an N-600, you will attend a virtual appointment with a Project Citizenship staff member to share relevant information and materials.
Project Citizenship Mails Your N-600 Application
After meeting with Project Citizenship to complete your N-600 application, we will mail your application to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
USCIS will then send you a receipt notice with your case number, and in some cases may schedule a fingerprinting appointment and/or interview.
Wait For Your Application To Be Processed
Processing times can vary, but most applicants receive a decision within approximately 10–13 months. Applicants over age 14 may be scheduled for an oath ceremony before receiving their Certificate of Citizenship, while applicants under 14 may receive their certificate by mail or through a USCIS pick-up appointment.
