Selective Service Warning

Your failure to register for Selective Service could negatively impact your citizenship application.

Males who lived in the U.S. while under age 26 are generally required to register for Selective Service. Registration is the way the U.S. government keeps a list of names of men potentially subject to military conscription (the draft) in case of a national emergency.

Males who were required to but did not register for Selective Service may be denied U.S. citizenship until age 31 (or age 29, if applying based on marriage to a U.S. citizen).

If you:
1. Lived in the U.S. while under 26,
2. Were required to but did not register for Selective Service, and,
3. Are under age 31 (or 29, if applying based on marriage to a U.S. citizen)

…Then, you may be required to prove to USCIS (with evidence) that your failure to register was not knowing and willful to be approved for U.S. citizenship.
