What is the G-1450?
The G-1450 is a new form from USCIS that allows applicants to pay the fees for the N-400 with a credit or debit card. USCIS is currently accepting Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover cards, as well as gift cards with Visa, MasterCard, American Express, or Discover logos. The applicant must be able to pay the entire fee with one card, so they cannot put one amount on one card and the rest on another card.
How do you use the G-1450?
If you have an applicant who wishes to pay with their credit card, have them fill out the G-1450, and then attach it to the front of their application (the same place where you would put the check or fee waiver). If you have a family of applicants who wish to pay with the same credit card, you will need to attach a separate G-1450 to each application. USCIS will reject all of the applications if they are submitted together with only one form.
Security
Regardless of whether the application is accepted or denied, USCIS will destroy the G-1450 after processing (or trying to process) the payment. This can make it difficult to figure out what went wrong if you get a denial notice saying that the fee was incorrect, but it prevents the applicant’s credit card information from floating around and falling into the wrong hands. With the same goal in mind, we have refrained from scanning or keeping a copy the completed G-1450, and suggest that you do the same.
We have had several applicants successfully pay their N-400 fees using this form. Hopefully you can begin to incorporate it into your practices as well.
